The application development workflow includes several subsequent steps. Starting with Autodesk Revit, an architectural BIM software that supports parametric 3D modeling and element drawing to ensure real-world dimensional fidelity. The resulting parametric 3D file is imported into another 3D modeling tool (typically Autodesk Maya or Autodesk 3Ds Max) and optimized for conversion to a FBX mesh file.
After the 3D dataset generation phase described above, the Substance Painter steps are followed to draw specific assets and define what each geometry will look like in the finished scene. Substance Designer allows you to program more general geometry.
All finished datasets are imported into Unreal Engine 4's real-time rendering engine to create scenes and generate 3D resources, lights, and textures. All geometry is reconfigured to receive a lighting map (a bitmap that contains the lighting information of the asset) for proper execution using static lighting techniques.
The programmable features defined in the product go through a draft and documenting stage separate from the main project to ensure organizational stability. Once these features are complete, they will be added to the main application in structured increments.
Quality Assurance (QA) goes through the finished scene and smooth features to maximize the quality of the user experience. Each QA path produces a list of bugs and improvements that have been fixed and applied to the updated version of the application. After the QA passlist is resolved, another passlist will be generated. A minimum of 3 QA passes is recommended.
